Everyone these days would like to have white teeth, however white teeth are not natural. Generally teeth are varying shades of cream or grey, and the older you get the creamer your teeth become. Some medications can also stain teeth, and if this staining is not too deep then whitening may be an option. Whatever your reason, it’s always nice to have a whiter, brighter smile.
At Live Life Smiling we offer a take home whitening system that will work slowly and more naturally over time.
Our procedure is to take impressions of your teeth and have plastic trays made so that the whitening agent can be placed and actively work while you sleep. When you are happy with the colour of your teeth you cease the whitening treatment; however, as time passes and you feel you would like to restart, you should have enough remaining agent to recommence the procedure.
Stains on teeth can be classified in one of two ways: extrinsic or intrinsic. Extrinsic stains appear on the surface of your teeth. Intrinsic stains live between the microcracks in your enamel and deep within your dentin (the layer of your tooth underneath your enamel). Whitening toothpastes and mouth rinses may be able to remove some of the extrinsic stains on your teeth. But only teeth whitening agents can remove the stubborn extrinsic stains and the unsightly intrinsic stains that cause your teeth to look discolored.
The active whitening ingredient (either carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide) penetrates your enamel to get to the discolored molecules. Oxygen molecules from the whitening agents react with the discolored molecules in your teeth, breaking the bonds that hold them together. The oxygen molecules spread, whitening the entire tooth. As a result, you are left with a brighter, whiter smile.
Our society places a great value on our smile and teeth and as such sometimes orthodontics may need an extra hand with some aesthetic dentistry to achieve the best results. More modern technology today means we can now use a non-invasive approach to building up teeth to make them even and natural where there has been an injury to teeth or where early childhood illness has discoloured teeth.
